PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To synthesize a hydrocarbon-based substance from carbon dioxide and water so as to fix carbon dioxide in the air and to produce a chemical material and a clean fuel by using iron or an iron compound as a catalyst. SOLUTION: A hydrocarbon-based substance such as methane, ethane, etc., is synthesized from carbon dioxide and water by using iron or an iron compound, preferably one or more selected from iron powder, Fe2O3, Fe3O4, FeSO4 and Fe2(SO4)3 as a catalyst. For example, a fixed amount of distilled water is poured into a container such as an autoclave 1, etc., a fixed amount of iron powder is dispersed into the distilled water, which is bubbled by CO2 from a carbon dioxide injection pipe 2 for 30 minutes and allowed to stand for a fixed time. Then 100μl of a vapor phase in the container is sampled by a syringe and preferably methane, ethane, etc., in the sample are analyzed by a gas chromatography, etc. |
