<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a graphite-containing refractory for nonferrous metals, which has improved resistance to oxidation. SOLUTION: The refractory is obtained by adding, as a binder, a thermosetting resin such as a phenol resin to refractory raw materials such as graphite, SiC, SiO2, metals and glasses, then kneading, forming the kneaded material, and, after drying the formed material at a low temp. of <=30 deg.C under the atmosphere, coating an antioxidant onto the surface of the dried material by a method such as brush coating, dipping or spraying. When the refractory is practically used, the refractory is fired at a temp. at which it is used, thereby over-sintering of the refractory before being used is avoided and the refractory is excellent in crack resistance. Further, the antioxidant formed on the surface is free from absorption of moisture or degeneration, and as the antioxidant is softened and vitrified at a temp. at which it is used, the antioxidant is free from the formation of cracks. Accordingly, the antioxidant is excellent in resistance to oxidation.</p> |
