PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a metal-ceramics composite material in which C is not contained and Si is used as metal matrix and to provide a method for producing it. SOLUTION: In this metal-ceramics composite material in which a metal as a base material is compounded with ceramics powder or fibers as a reinforcing material, the metal is composed of molten Si, the ceramics powder or fibers are composed of ceramics powder or fibers having the m.p. or decomposing temp. of >=1600 deg.C, and the content of C contained in the composite material is controlled to be equal to or below that of C contained in the ceramics powder or fibers.
