PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fire hydrant with a compact air valve capable of automatically discharging air in piping and reliably speedily discharging air even if a large amount of air flows in at the initial stage of the passage of water. SOLUTION: In a fire hydrant provided with a valve body 14 to open/close an inlet 12 formed in a valve box and a spindle 30 to operate the opening and closing of the valve body 14, a float chamber 16 to house a float valve 17 for discharging air under pressure and a main valve 25 for rapidly discharging air in such a way as to be independently freely vertically moved is formed inside the valve body 14. A connecting opening 18 to connect with the float chamber 16 is formed at the lower end part of the valve body 14 opposite to the inlet 12, and discharging passages 23c and 26 to discharge air which has entered the float chamber 16 are formed in the valve body 14. An air valve opening 24a to be closed by the floating-up of the float valve 17 and a discharging opening 26a with a larger diameter than that of the air valve opening 24a to be closed by the main valve 25 are independently formed at the end parts of the discharging passages.
