PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an incorrect collating detecting method, by which a high reliability is obtained on its judgment and, at the same time, a high speed processing can be obtained, and a low cost incorrect collating detecting device, in which the above method is employed. SOLUTION: This incorrect collating detecting method in a bookbinding machine is performed on the basis of the comparison between a standard image, which is the picked-up image of a regular signature, and the image of an object of inspection, which is the picked-up image of the signature as the object of inspection. The method has a region setting process for setting the predetermined region in the standard image, a feature parameter calculating process for calculating feature parameters in the above predetermined region and in the corresponding region of the image of the object of inspection, which corresponds to the above predetermined region, and a feature parameter comparing process for judging whether the signature as the object of inspection is under an incorrect collating state or not through the comparison between the feature parameter in the predetermined region and that in the corresponding region.
