PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scroll type fluid machine allowing high efficient operation even in a capacity control operation. SOLUTION: This scroll type fluid machine is provided with a hosing 2 forming a closed space and connecting intake and discharge pipes 8, a fixed scroll 9 fixed and supported in the housing 2, a turning scroll 11 engaged with the fixed scroll 9 and revolving around it while being prevented from rotating, and a driving means 1 for the turning scroll 11. The fixed scroll 9 contacts with the turning scroll 11 by a plurality of contacting points to form a crescent shaped compression chamber, and the compression chamber moves from the periphery to the inside while reducing the volume for performing suction, compression, and discharge at one time. The fixed scroll 9 is provided with a variable restriction mechanism 30 on its suction port 18.
