PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to produce colorless and transparent zinc sulfide of low stress, low scattering and high transmittance. SOLUTION: This process for producing the zinc sulfide includes forming of the deposit of the zinc sulfide on a substrate, separating of the deposit as a zinc sulfide foam from the substrate, heating the foam to a temperature over 700 deg.C, applying an isostatic pressure of at least 5000 psi to this foam, maintaining the temperature and pressure for at least 24 hours and cooling of the foam at a rate of <50 deg.C per hour. |
