PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize high flowability enough to be executed even when water content is low, by incorporating a specific amount of a polyether compound containing carboxyl groups of specified amount into a resol- or novolak-type phenol resin which is a binder for the monolithic refractory containing refractory aggregate. SOLUTION: A polyether compound containing at least one carboxyl group is added to a phenolic resin of a refractory binder in an amount of 1 to 50 wt.%, preferably 5 to 30 wt.%. As the phenol resin, a resol-type or a novolak- type resin, each being obtained by the polycondensation of phenols with aldehydes in the presence of an acid or an alkali catalyst, respectively, can be used. when this binder composition for the refractory is used, the carboxyl group adsorbs on the surface of the aggregate in the monolithic refractory composition containing the refractory aggregate and the polyether chain diffuses on the surface of the aggregate, thereby dispersibility is improved. Accordingly, the monolithic refractory composition including 0.01 to 30% of the polyether compound containing at least one carboxyl group exhibits high flowability even when the water content is not more than 7.0%. |
