PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To print two kinds of substrates varying in characteristics with resin films for alignment layers by controlling the difference between the film thicknesses of these substrates to a small difference. SOLUTION: Either one substrate 5 of the substrates, which have two kinds of the characteristics and are to be printed with the resin films for the alignment layers, is placed on a stage 2 in a first stage. A printing plate 11 meeting the characteristics of the placed substrate 5 is wound around a plate cylinder 6 in a second stage. The resin film for the alignment layer is supplied onto the wrapped printing plate 11 in a third stage. The stage 2 is moved in a prescribed direction 4 and the plate cylinder 6 is rotated in a prescribed direction, by which the substrate 5 is transferred and printed with the resin film for the alignment layer on the printing plate 11 in a fourth stage. The respective printing plates 11 meeting the characteristics of the respective substrates have a ratio X and Y(%) of the projecting part area to the entire area of the printing plates and projecting part depths H, L (μm), respectively and satisfy the relations (X-20)<=Y<=(X-10), H<=L<=(H+20).
