PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head capable of reducing thermal noise and a magnetic head device with the thin film magnetic head. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head 20 has a lower magnetic film 31 laminated on a substrate 21, a magnetoresistance effect element 33 laminated on the lower magnetic film 31 by way of a lower gap film 32 and an upper magnetic film 42 laminated on the magnetoresistance effect element 33 by way of an upper gap film 41. At least one of the lower gap film 32 and the upper gap film 41 has a nonmagnetic metallic film 32b or 41b having high heat conductivity and an insulating film 32a or 41a which insulates the nonmagnetic metallic film 32b or 41b from the magnetoresistance effect element 33.
