PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip type variable resistor for which work like repairing is excellently and quickly performed. SOLUTION: This variable resistor is provided with an insulating substrate 1 of ceramic, a resistor 2 arranged on the upper surface 1a of the insulating substrate, an electrode 3 which is arranged on the upper surface 1a of the insulating substrate 1 and connected with an end portion of the resistor 2, and a first terminal 5 which is fixed on the insulating substrate 1 and connected with the electrode 3. On the lower surface 1b of the insulating substrate 1, the first terminal 5 is bonded and retained with the insulting substrate 1 by using insulating adhesive agent.
