PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high performance small sized heat exchanger by containing a second heat exchanger within the surface area of a first heat exchanger. SOLUTION: Refrigerant circulates from a compressor through a four-way valve, outdoor heat exchanger, a throttle and an indoor heat exchanger during cooling operation. First and second heat exchangers are disposed, respectively, on the upstream side and downstream side of a refrigerant channel. Refrigerant circulate reversely during heating operation. The indoor unit of an air conditioner comprises a first heat exchanger 501 for indoor heat exchange and a second heat exchanger 502 contained within the surface area thereof wherein the second heat exchanger 502 is located between the first heat exchanger 501 and a crossflow fan 503. The air flow sucks air in the direction C from the front side of the first heat exchanger 501 and blows the air in the direction D from the rear side of the second heat exchanger 502. In other words, the second heat exchanger 502 is disposed on the downstream side of air flow.
