PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and driving method thereof capable of realizing multi-gradation while suppressing an increase of device cost and an enlargement of occupying space of a peripheral circuit. SOLUTION: This display device features being equipped with a data source 10 supplying n×m bits (n and m are integers more than 1) of display data per one picture element, a horizontal driving circuit 12 having a digital analog converter 12c converting m bit units of the display data inputted from the data source 10 into a 2m gradation analog signal, a display zone 11 having a picture element 14 comprising n pieces of display elements 14a-1, 14a-2,..., 14a-n having a rate of display areas of 2(n-1)*m:2(n-2)*m:...: 2(n-n)*m, and a vertical driving circuit 13 outputting a selection signal for allocating and writing n piece units of the analog signals outputted from the digital analog converter 12c each into n pieces of the display elements 14a-1, 14a-2,..., 14a-n.
