摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent selective development which occurs according to a toner particle diameter and to enable steady development, by using a developing roller whose surface roughness is substantially in the same range as that of the volume center particle diameter of one-component toner. SOLUTION: In a developing roller 2, electrically-conductive, elastic layer 4 is formed around an electrically-conductive rotary shaft 3, and a protective layer 5 is formed on the surface of the elastic layer 4 as necessary. The surface roughness (Rz) is imparted to the surface of the developing roller so as to fall in a desired range, that is, substantially in the same range as that of volume center particle diameter of toner to be used, by forming electrically-conductive rubber into a roller by a thermosetting process and thereafter subjecting it to a known grinding process, that is, an grinding process as by a cylinder grinding machine, shot blaster, sand blaster, wrapping machine, or buffing machine. In this case, substantially the same range is the range of 1μm or less smaller or larger than the volume center particle diameter of the toner. Therefore, this enables steady development without causing a change in toner particle diameter in continuous use.
