PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a print character from being crushed in black by discriminating whether the number of black dots existent in an extracted range is more than a set value and determining whether bold processing is to be executed corresponding to the result. SOLUTION: The number of black dots existent in the prescribed range from the center of the dot image of a character is counted by a bold processing discriminating means 11. Character display 15 shows the range to count the number of black dots in the dot image of the character. Next, it is discriminated whether the counted number of black dots is more than a preset value, and when the number is more, the image is printed by a print out 12 as is, without performing bold processing but when that number is less, on the other hard, the image is processed by a bold processing means 13 and printed by print out 14 later. In this case, since the number of black dots at the central part of the KANJI for a 'hawk' is more than a prescribed value, printing is performed by a print out 12 which does not conduct bold processing, so that the image can be outputted without being crushed in black.
