The portable emergency call system has a satellite supported locating device (GPS) and a mobile telecommunication system (GSM) functionally connected thereto. Both have monitoring devices with a transmitter and a receiver. These are associated, in a module with current supply and alarm triggering device, with a data memory which stores the respective current position data. A central computer is arranged for permanent interactive connection with the active components of different target objects. Each module has a switch over device between the GPS and the GSM devices. The GPS takes priority over the GSM and the system switches to GSM if the connection between the computer and the GPS is broken. The modules have a communication module for opposite data transmission to make an indirect connection between a module of the target object with the computer center in relation to another module of another object as a host function.
