PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress a spurious reflection wave at an end face of a piezoelectric substrate of a surface acoustic wave device without increasing the device size and the number of manufacture processes. SOLUTION: In the surface acoustic wave device provided with a piezoelectric substrate 1, interdigital electrodes 2, 3 provided on the surface of the piezoelectric substrate 1 to stimulate a surface acoustic wave, and a sound absorbing members 5 provided between the end faces of the piezoelectric substrate 1 and the interdigital electrodes 2, 3, an angle between a direction perpendicular to a main propagation direction of the surface acoustic wave and the end face of the piezoelectric substrate 1 is restricted within a range of an excess of 0 degree and 15 degree or below, and a coating width W of the sound absorbing member 5 is restricted within a range between 2.5λand 5λ, whereλis a wavelength of the surface acoustic wave.
