An ultrasonic inspection apparatus (10) for the concurrent inspection of partially completed welds in combination with an automated movable welder (20), operable to move along surfaces (13) for the purpose of welding pipe (11) and pipe (12) together, wherein welder (20) moves along a rail of track (21) which is fastened to one of the pipes, wherein the mechanism to move the welder (2) comprises carriage (23) and pinion gear (24) for engaging a rack gear along the peripheral edge (22) of track (21), whereby wheels (25) engage the track (21). The movable welder (20) also includes control box (31), which controls the operation of movable welder, an adjustment assembly (40) and guide member (41), a tracking sensor (55), a motor (50), and an electric welding torch (30), in which the welder is movable along a path of travel laterally disposed relative to the welds.
