A continuous casting process, comprises locating the melt feed opening (90) for the mould (24) in the tundish (40) and altering the metal level (M) in the tundish (40) to adjust the metal level above the opening (90). A continuous casting process comprises feeding molten metal (29) from a runner (42) into a tundish (40) and from the tundish through a passage opening (90) to form a free meniscus (29) in the inlet opening (26) of a mould (24) which forms a closed cross-section with inlet and outlet openings (26, 30). The melt supply to the mould (24) is regulated by adjustment of the metal level (M) in the tundish (40) and adjustment of the metal level above the passage opening (90). The passage opening (90) is located in the tundish (40) and the metal level (M) in the tundish (40) is altered to adjust the metal level above the passage opening (90). An Independent claim is also included for a continuous casting machine for carrying out the above process. |
