An alignment device for a continuous casting plant for billets and blooms comprises at least one free-running roll (14) and a drive roll (16) between which the strand is guided. A lifting device (22) presses the drive roll (16) and/or the free-running roll (14) onto the strand. The pressing force exerted by the lifting device (22) is controlled by a pressing force control (24); a reference value of the pressing force can be set. A slip determining device (44) determines a slip value between the free-running roll (14) and drive roll (16); the slip value determined is fed in as a correction value into the pressing force control (24) of the lifting device (22) such that the pressing force is increased if the slip value is greater than zero.<IMAGE>
