Improved control of the temperature profile in a furnace for the reheating of steel products such as slabs and billets for subsequent rolling operations

Temperature control of a steel product, notably a slab or billet for subsequent rolling, in a reheat furnace incorporating lateral burners positioned in different zones, notably pre-heating, heating and soaking zones, with the burners (5,6) individually controlled independently of each other so each burner constitutes an independent zone of regulation. The individual control of each of the burners is effected in a manner to position the hot point of its flame as a function of the longitudinal temperature profile desired for the product being reheated.
