QUALITY OF SERVICE IN RELIABLE DATAGRAM

A data processing system (100) includes a source device (104) having a first source application instance (AI) producing a first unit of work stream and a destination device (106) having at least one destination AI which consumes units of work. A first source and destination resource (SDR) (102) implements a first reliable datagram service between the source device (104) and the destination device (106), transmits a first portion of the first unit of work stream over a communication services/fabric (108), and guarantees strong ordering of the first portion of the first unit of work stream received at the destination device (106). A second SDR (102) implements a second reliable datagram service between the source device (104) and the destination device (106), transmits a second portion of the first unit of work stream over the communication services/fabric (108), and guarantees strong ordering of the second portion of the first unit of work stream received at the destination device (106). Quality of Service can be implemented by grouping SDRs into SDR groups, where each SDR group includes at least one SDR and is assigned a unique priority level for effecting throughput and response time of transmitted units of work.
