PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contribute to reduction in Barkhausen noise while allowing the coating of a magnetic domain control hard layer. SOLUTION: Magnetic domain control hard layers 48 are formed along the end faces 47a, 47b of a magneto-resistance effect film 46. This hard layer 48 promotes the formation of the single magnetic domain of the magneto-resistance effect film 46. In this case, an overlap quantity OL, which is measured from the terminal end 46b of a free-side magnetic layer to the tip end 48a of the hard layer 48, is set below 0.282μm. Barkhausen noise is reduced by such overlap quantity OL. In addition, with a tapered angleθset in excess of 40 deg., it brings a margin in the coating quantity CO.
