A shadow mask for a color image receiving tube which has dot holes of slot hole type, characterized in that the projected area of bridging parts between encountering holes vertically adjacent to each other is in the range of 23 to 0.01 % in terms of the percentage of the above area in the sum of the projected area of encountering holes and the projected area of such bridging parts; and a color image receiving tube having the shadow mask incorporated therein. The shadow mask can correspond to a flat face Braun tube having a shadow mask held under tension, and provides excellent brightness and contrast due to its increased area of dot holes.
