<p>The invention relates to a method for periodically desulfating a nitrogen oxide or sulfur oxide accumulator of an exhaust gas cleaning system of an internal combustion engine, whereby secondary air is fed to the accumulator during a corresponding desulfation period by allocated secondary air supply means, and an engine exhaust gas containing reducing agents is fed to said accumulator by setting a rich engine air ratio. The invention provides that, at least during a portion of the desulfating period after reaching a predeterminable desulfation temperature, the accumulator air ratio is adjusted in an oscillatory manner between an oxidizing or stoichiometric atmosphere and a reducing atmosphere by correspondingly changing the supplied quantity of secondary air and/or by altering the engine air ratio.</p> |
