The invention relates to a method and a device for producing NaDCl4, wherein D represents aluminium or iron. According to the invention, in a first reaction stage, a melt of aluminium or iron is reacted with chlorine gas into a gaseous metal halogenate and this is then reacted with solid sodium chloride into the corresponding compound and separated in the form of a melt.
