At the appts. to condense a drawn sliver, for use at a spinner, the clamping roller (20) is powered by a friction roller (26) and drives the transport belt (19). A spring (29) presses the friction roller (26) against the clamping roller (20) and also against a roller (7) of the final pair (2) of drawing unit rollers. The friction roller (26) lies against the surface of the final drawing roller (7) of the outlet pair of drawing rollers (2). The spring (29) is at a presser arm (10) of the sliver drawing unit (1). The friction roller (26) has a rubber-elastic cladding (28), or the steel roller surface has a corded or rippled profile, and lies against an elastic cladding (22) around the clamping roller (20) which has a zone to be rotated by the friction roller (26) and also move the transport belt (19). Or the clamping roller cladding has two separate zones to work individually with the friction roller and transport belt. The clamping roller can have two zones of different dias., to work separately with the friction roller and to apply a tension drafting action on the sliver (12). The friction roller can be a pressure roller with a fitted collar, and can also carry a cleaner for the clamping roller and/or the upper roller of the final pair of drawing rollers as a blade ring and the like.
