PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fermentation apparatus for garbage which can convert the primary fermentation product of garbage (food residue) almost free from foreign materials which was discharged from restaurants, schools, hospitals, into compost and other resources. SOLUTION: An apparatus is composed of a porous box 2, a perforated pipe 3 erected in the box 2, and a catchment measure 4 which is fitted to the apex part of the box 2 and whose bottom part 4a communicates with the pipe 3. Water is supplied appropriately by evening dew, rain, or sprinkling to a slightly dried food residue N after primary fermentation treatment which was disposed in the box 2 to surround the pipe 3 to promote the action of OKZ bacteria (special complex bacteria) so that completed compost can be produced in a short period.
