<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject apparatus and method for individually or simultaneously detoxifying a halogenated aromatic compd. such as dioxins or the like, nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide, a volatile org. compd. or the like contained in exhaust gas discharged from an urban refuse incinerator or the like. SOLUTION: First and second electrodes 11, (12), a potential difference imparting means 15 for imparting potential difference across the first and second electrodes 11, (12) and a harmful substance adsorbing material 14 arranged between the first and second electrodes 11, (12) are provided. By imparting potential difference across the first and second electrodes, the harmful substance adsorbed on the adsorbing material 14 is decomposed on the surface of the adsorbing material and in the vicinity thereof.</p> |
