PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively obtain a carpet having various functions since recently the carpet having various functions such as antistatic properties, etc., is needed, hence, for example, when an antistatic yarn is mixed with a main yarn of pile yarn for a carpet to give an antistatic carpet, a high mixing ratio is required and it causes a problem of expensive carpet. SOLUTION: This pile yarn 10 for a carpet is obtained by spirally winding a press yarn 12 on a main yarn 11. The press yarn 12 is a twisted yarn provided at least with a functional yarn and a yarn having winding and fastening power. Since the functional yarn exists as the press yarn 12 on the surface of the pile yarn, the function can be efficiently exhibited. Consequently the amount of the functional yarn used is reduced. Sufficient winding and fastening of the main yarn 11 is carried out by the yarn having the winding and fastening power.
