PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an under ground excavator capable of making such an arrangement that the rotary diameter of a crank and the stroke of a plurality of drive jacks overlap with each other, and compacting the diameter of the excavator. SOLUTION: A crank mechanism 10 is axially connected to the input side end of the cutter rotary shaft 8 of a single axis shield machine. A plurality of drive jacks 17a, 17b,... actuated by hydraulic pressure are connected to the crank mechanism 10. The cutter rotary shaft 8 is rotated through the crank mechanism 10 by these drive jacks 17a, 17b,... and the cutter 5 is rotated by the cutter rotary shaft 8 to excavate natural ground. |
