The invention relates to a process of producing chlorine dioxide by the reductio n of chlorate ions with hydrogen peroxide as a reducing agent in a tubular reactor, p referably in the presence of a mineral acid, wherein the preferable degree of chlorate con version to chlorine dioxide in the reactor is above about 75%, preferably from about 80 to 100%.
