PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new titania-zirconia-based powder excellent in poisoning resistance and eliminating properties for acidic substances such as sulfur compounds and capable of holding a high specific surface area even by heat treatment at high temperatures and remarkably improving heat resistance without changing characteristics such as a small number of basic points on the titania surface and to provide a method for producing the titania-zidconia-based powder. SOLUTION: (1) This titania-zirconia-based powder comprises at least a part of zirconia forming a solid solution in the crystal phase of titania or at least a part of titania forming a solid solution in the crystal phase of the zirconia. (2) The titania-zirconia-based powder comprises the crystal phase of the titania composed of an anatase phase, contains 3-30 wt.% of zirconia and 0.5-10 wt.% of yttria and has <20 wt.% sum total of contents of a double oxide such as ZrTiO4 or (Ti, Zr)O2, a monoclinic phase zirconia and tetragonal phase zirconia and physical property values of >=34 m2/g specific surface area after heat treatment at 900 deg.C for 5 h in the atmosphere. (3) The titania-zirconia-based powder is obtained by dispersing the titania-zirconia-based powder (1) and (2) having <=1 μm average particle diameter in an alumina powder. |
