PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To let an annular groove less interfere with a grinding wheel, let the grinding wheel large in diameter be used, enhance working efficiency, and lengthen the life of the grinding wheel. SOLUTION: The shaft of a cup shaped grinding wheel 16 identical in diameter to the annular groove (g) of a work W, having a tip end periphery the cross section of which is identical in shape to the cross section of the annular groove (g), is relatively inclined with respect to an axis passing through the center of the annular groove (g), so that the annular groove (g) of the work W is ground by the tip end periphery of the cup shaped grinding wheel 16.
