PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To return an actual article of an inadvertently left medium first taken in from a device through the operation of a client by recognizing the medium and client specification information for specifying the medium and the client, and correspondently storing these pieces of information. SOLUTION: A base bill is passed through a recognizing until 4 and a character recognizing unit 5 in all operations and a denomination and a bill number or the like are read. The read number is made into data, stacked in a memory for storing one transaction part inside the unit, next transferred to a control part 1 and stored. The character recognized bill is stored in a left article take-in cassette 14. A main control part, to which the notice of leaving occurrence is received, records and preserves transaction information (such as the account number of the client, a bank code, a branch number and a name) just before the occurrence of taking-in and left medium information (such as left amount, bill number and a denomination) in a storage device as left article information. When the relevant client presses a confirm key, the bill number is read by the character reading unit 5 and when it is matched, the bill is returned.
