PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical recording medium capable of higher density recording and having sufficiently high durability in practical use as the optical recording medium and to provide an optical recording method using the optical recording medium. SOLUTION: The near field optical recording medium enables recording, reproduction and erasure using evanescent light having a smaller beam spot diameter than the wavelength of a light source. A recording layer of the optical recording medium comprises an amorphous layer, based on a photochromic material having >=55 deg.C glass transition temperature.
