The invention relates to a method for reading addresses comprising processing steps that are controlled by parameters, wherein free parameters which are not adapted by means of learning samples are automatically optimized. For this reason, costs are assigned to said parameters. The value of free parameters which are expensive and surpass selectable cost thresholds are maintained and the remaining free parameters are improved by repeatedly modifying their values according to strategies known per se taking into account already evaluated parameter adjustments. The reading method is trained and evaluated exclusively using said modified values.
