DRAINAGE CATHETER DELIVERY SYSTEM

A single operator drainage catheter delivery system (100) and method of use. The delivery system (100) includes a guide member (104) having a guidewire lumen extending through a distal portion (120) thereof, with a proximal guidewire port located distal of the proximal end (118). A placement catheter (102) disposed over the guide member (104) has a catheter lumen (116) extending through a distal portion thereof, with a proximal guidewire port (138) located distal of the proximal end (110). Locating the proximal guidewire ports as such allows the delivery system (100) to be used by a single person with a shorter guidewire (170). A drainage catheter (106) is disposed about the guide member (104) distal of the placement catheter (102). The drainage catheter delivery system (100) preferably includes a means (108) for releasable connecting the placement catheter (102) to the drainage catheter (106), wherein the releasable connecting means (108) disconnects the drainage catheter (106) upon displacement of the guide member (104).
