A steering device for a car with steerable wheels (2) has a steering organ (4) operable by a driver against the effect of a steering force or steering torque plus at least one actuator for the angle of lock working on the steerable wheels and able to be influenced by an electronic control device. A device (12-6) is provided for the determination of a transverse slip occurring at the steerable wheels. In the electronic control device, an upper threshold value for the transverse slip can be determined. At least one device (16,8) is provided which serves to work against a further increase of the angle of lock when the determined transverse slip is greater than the upper threshold value.
