Winter wheat derived chitinase cDNAs expressed at low temperatures, methods of cloning and uses

A winter wheat derived chitinase cDNA characterised in that the cDNA encodes a protein with chitinase activity at low temperatures. The chitinase polypeptides may have an amino acid sequence corresponding to SEQ ID NOS: 1, 2 or 3. Also claimed is a method cloning such cDNAs using a standard PCR based protocol with specific primers (SEQ ID NOS:4 and 5) to generate fragments for library screening. Transgenic plants transformed with a winter wheat derived chitinase cDNA are claimed.
