The tabletop is joined to a vertical stand (2), containing two telescopic leg units (3a,3b). Each of the legs (3a,3b) comprises an inner hollow column (4a,4b), which can be moved vertically inside an outer pipe (5a,5b) in order to adjust the height of the table (1). A third bar (8) is accommodated inside the mechanism (3a,3b) and can be moved in accordance with the inner pipe (4a,4b) into a position overlapping the space between both segments (4a,4b,5a,5b) and thus preventing the inner column (4a,4b) from tilting and getting jammed inside the outer pipe (5a,5b). A holding element (12,13,14,15) at the bottom of the stand (2) protects the support bar (8) from being moved upwards too far.
