PURPOSE: An electron emitting source is provided to ensure a completely flat constitution, enhance an electron emitting ability and simplify the whole constitution of a device by emitting electrons by means of radioactive collapse. CONSTITUTION: An electron emitting source of the invention can have a constitution comprising a substrate(601), and a radioactive collapsing material(602) which is coated on the substrate to emit first electron. Alternatively, the source can have another constitution comprising substrate(601), a radioactive collapsing material(602) which is coated on the substrate to emit first electron, and secondary electron emitting material(605) which is coated on the radioactive collapsing material(602) and emits secondary electrons via the first electrons emitted from the radioactive collapsing material. The constitution of a cathode for emitting electrons can be easily changed, and electric consumption of a device can be reduced.
