PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new galactose transferase which has an action of transferring a galactose residue to C4 position of a receptor β-D-xylose residue from a galactose donor, and can be used for a tool for producing proteoglycan and glucosaminoglycan and so on. SOLUTION: This is a new galactose transferase shown in the formula which has an action of transferring a galactose residue to C4 position of a receptor β-D-xylose residue from a galactose donor, has substrate specificity of not transferring the galactose residue to a receptor comprising N-acetylglucosamine residue, N-acetylgalactosamine residue, galactose residue, and glucosylceramide residue from the galactose donor, is useful as a tool for producing proteoglycan and glucosaminoglycan and so on, and can also be used for the gene therapy for a patient having a genetic trouble or low expression of the enzyme and so on. This enzyme is obtained by carrying out PCR of a cDNA library derived from human using primers having partial sequences, followed by expressing the obtained gene. |
