The present invention provides a pharmaceutical or dietary composition for lowering the level of IGF-I in blood of mammals which comprises an IGF-I reducing effective amount of a carotenoid. Furthermore, a method for reducing IGF-I levels is provided which comprises administering an IGF-I reducing effective amount of a carotenoid to a subject in need thereof.
