PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cutting fluid improved in corrosiveness without detriment to cutting performances by mixing at least one member selected from among a rust inhibitor, a surfactant, and an extreme pressure additive with a specified amount of a water-soluble alcohol and water. SOLUTION: The water-soluble alcohol is used in an amount of 20-60 wt.%. The alcohol is desirably a saturated monohydric alcohol, especially, a 1-3C saturated monohydric alcohol. The rust inhibitor is desirably a silicate or benzenediamide. The surfactant which can be used is a nonionic, anionic or amphoteric one. It is particularly desirably a polyoxyethylene alkyl ether, an alkylbenzenesulfonate salt or an alkylsulfate salt. The extreme pressure additive is desirably an organic or inorganic compound containing sulfur, phosphorus, chlorine, or the like. Usually, the fluid contains at most 0.5 wt.% rust inhibitor, at most 0.5 wt.% surfactant, and at most 0.3 wt.% extreme pressure additive. |
