PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the positions of two members in a relation of relative movement. SOLUTION: A first member provided with a magnet and a second member having a plurality of magnetic reluctance elements sensing to the magnetic force of a magnet and relatively moving against the first member are measured to be in specific measuring positions. The device has three magnetic reluctance elements MR1 to MR3 extending mutually in parallel and a magnetic reluctance element MR4 extending almost vertically to them, detects the two members to be the origin positions based on the output signal from the connection ends of the magnetic reluctance elements MR1 and MR2, detects the two members to be in the region to be detected based on the output signal from the connection ends of the magnetic reluctance elements MR3 and MR4 and detects that the two members are in the specific position to be detected based on these detection signals.
