The present invention relates to a long-acting antibacterial composition which comprises 7 beta -[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-(Z)-2-hydroxyiminoacetamido]-3-[(5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl)thiomethyl]-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof, a gelling agent and a carrier. The composition of the present invention exhibits therapeutic and prophylactic effects by mere single administration (intramuscular or subcutaneous injection) before or after onset of infectious diseases in livestock because 7 beta -[2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-(Z)-2- hydroxyiminoacetamido]-3- [(5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl) thiomethyl]-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid or a pharmacologically acceptable salt is retained in high concentration in plasma for a lot of hours. |
