PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost vibration damping device to effectively absorb and relax vibration for a long period through simple structure, without changes due to passage of time. SOLUTION: When a member 2 on the oscillation side is laterally vibrated by vibration of an oscillation source guide member 8, a member 4 on the vibration damping means side, and a vibration damping means 3 are about to vibrate in the same direction. In this case, the guide member 8 is vibrated approximately integrally with the member 2 on the oscillation source side, but since a gear 7 is rotated through vibration of the guide member 8, the member 4 on the vibration damping mean side and the vibration damping means 3 are hardly vibrated in a lateral direction. Since the gear 7 is rotationally moved through guide by the recessed curved surface and the protrusion curved surface of first and second guide parts 9 and 10, the member 4 on the damping vibration means side is reciprocated vertically. The vertical vibration of the member 4 on the vibration damping means side is exchanged into other energy, such as thermal energy, frictional energy, or positional energy, and effectively absorbed by the vibration damping means 3.
