PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which brightly displays information with easy visibility in electronic instruments such as a watch and which can afford variation in design. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display panel 10, which is the liquid crystal display device, is constituted of a liquid crystal cell 12 comprising a liquid crystal layer enclosed between a pair of transparent substrates having electrodes on the inside surfaces placed opposite to each other respectively, an absorption type polarizing plate 14 arranged on the viewer's side of the liquid crystal cell 12 which absorbs linearly polarized light having a plane of vibration with a direction perpendicular to its transmission susceptible axis, a reflection type polarizing plate 16 arranged on the side opposite to the viewer's side of the liquid crystal cell 12 which reflects linearly polarized light having a plane of vibration with a direction perpendicular to its transmission susceptible axis and a color filter 18 arranged either on the viewer's side of the absorption type polarizing plate 14 or between the absorption type polarizing plate 14 and the reflection type polarizing plate 16. |
