PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic foam compact excellent in freeze-thaw durability and also to provide a method for producing the same compact. SOLUTION: This inorganic foam compact is produced by expanding a foamable composition comprising 100 pts.wt. SiO2 and Al2O3-based inorganic powder, 0.2-450 pts.wt. alkali metal silicate, 10-1,500 pts.wt. water and 0.1-10 pts.wt. metal salt of a fatty acid. The inorganic foam compact has a specific gravity of >0.5 and <=1.5.
